How to Travel Morocco on a Budget

    L'équipe éditoriale OLIVIANA CAR8 min

💰 Morocco is remarkably affordable compared to European destinations, and with a little planning, you can experience its wonders on a modest budget. Here's how to make your dirhams stretch further without sacrificing the quality of your experience.

    🏨 Accommodation

Budget riads and guesthouses in the medinas offer authentic Moroccan experience from 200-400 MAD per night (€18-36). Hostels in major cities cost from 100 MAD. Camping is widely available and very affordable.

    🍽️ Food

Eat where locals eat. A filling meal of tagine or couscous at a local restaurant costs 30-50 MAD (€3-5). Street food — msemen, bocadillos, and harira — costs even less. Markets (souks) sell fresh produce at rock-bottom prices.

    🚌 Transport

CTM and Supratours buses connect all major cities comfortably and cheaply. Shared grands taxis are even cheaper for shorter routes. Renting a car from OLIVIANA CAR is cost-effective for groups — split between 3-4 people, it's often cheaper than individual bus tickets.

    🎯 Free & Cheap Activities

Walking through medinas is free and endlessly entertaining. Beaches are free. Many mosques and historical sites have minimal entry fees (10-20 MAD). Hiking in the Atlas Mountains is free — just bring water and good shoes.

    💳 Money Tips

The Moroccan Dirham (MAD) is a closed currency — exchange money on arrival. ATMs are widely available. Carry small bills for taxis, tips, and small purchases. Bargain everywhere except in fixed-price shops.
