Guide to Merzouga & the Erg Chebbi Dunes

✨ Merzouga is the gateway to Erg Chebbi, Morocco's most spectacular sand dune field. Rising up to 150 meters high, these golden dunes create one of the most awe-inspiring landscapes in North Africa. A visit to Merzouga is the quintessential Sahara experience.

    🐪 The Camel Trek Experience

Most visitors take a 1.5-hour camel ride from the edge of the dunes to a desert camp deep in the erg. Watching the sunset from the back of a camel as the dunes turn from gold to orange to deep purple is an experience you'll never forget.

    ⛺ Desert Camps

Options range from basic Berber tents to luxury glamping camps with private bathrooms, gourmet dinners, and even swimming pools. All offer the same incredible stargazing — the Sahara sky, free from light pollution, is breathtaking.

    Getting There

Merzouga is about 9 hours from Marrakech by car — a long drive but one that passes through stunning scenery including the Dadès Valley and Todra Gorge. Rent from OLIVIANA CAR and break the journey with overnight stops.

    Best Time to Visit

Avoid summer (June-August) when temperatures exceed 45°C. The best months are October to April, with cool nights perfect for camping. Spring brings a brief bloom of desert flowers.
